Turning Creativity Into Celebrations—One Cake at a Time

For Cynthia Reinoso, creativity has always been second nature. What began as a hobby—baking and decorating cakes for loved ones quickly revealed something more. The demand was real and the encouragement from those around her made it clear: this passion could become a business.

Today, Cynthia is the owner and creative force behind Dash of Dulce, a home‑based bakery in Oshawa serving clients across Durham Region. She specializes in custom buttercream cakes and memorable desserts designed for life’s biggest moments—birthdays, weddings, bridal events, holidays, and everything worth celebrating.

Each creation reflects Cynthia’s artistic eye, attention to detail, and deep care for her clients’ experiences.

The Spark Behind the Business

Cynthia has always had an artistic mindset and a love for decorating. Baking started as something she did purely for joy, but friends and family quickly saw her potential and encouraged her to think bigger.

“They knew this could take me farther than just doing it for fun,” she shares.

That belief—and her willingness to take herself seriously as a business owner—led to the launch of Dash of Dulce.

Seeking Support Through BACD

While Cynthia felt confident in her decorating skills, she knew the business side needed structure and clarity. She reached out to the Business Advisory Centre Durham (BACD) to strengthen the behind‑the‑scenes foundation of her business.

“I’m very hands‑on creatively,” she says, “but I needed help making sure I was on track, profitable, and following the right procedures.”

Through BACD, Cynthia learned the importance of tracking her activities, setting short‑term and long‑term goals, and staying focused on progress—not just day‑to‑day tasks.

“That support helped me focus on the goals I set for myself and the achievements along the way.”

Growing With Purpose

Dash of Dulce operates as a sole‑proprietor, home‑based bakery, yet demand has been strong from the very beginning.

Cynthia is especially proud that she has been booked every single weekend since she started—a testament to both her skill and the trust her clients place in her work. The business has grown into her full‑time focus, allowing her to spend more time with her daughter and loved ones while doing what she loves most.

Social media has played a key role in Cynthia’s growth. She uses Instagram and Facebook, occasionally supported by paid ads, but credits her success to consistent posting and engaging reels that showcase her work and personality.

Showing up regularly, sharing the process, and staying visible have helped Dash of Dulce stay top‑of‑mind with clients across Durham Region.

What She’s Most Proud Of

Beyond the bookings and beautiful cakes, Cynthia is proud of the trust and belief her community showed her from day one.

“I’m so grateful that people believed in me from the beginning,” she says. “This business allows me to be present for my family while building something meaningful.”

Cynthia’s advice is rooted in growth and humility:

“Never stop learning. Things evolve every day, and new trends arise. Don’t think you stop learning once you’ve ‘made it.’ Fall in love with learning and make it a daily goal.”
