Stef Wood
MindSpark Psychotherapy
MindSpark Psychotherapy is a Durham‑based virtual mental health clinic offering compassionate, trauma‑informed therapy to adults across Ontario and Canada. The practice supports individuals navigating anxiety, ADHD, emotional overwhelm, religious trauma, and major life transitions.
MindSpark’s approach is collaborative and grounded in evidence‑based practices. Stef blends multiple therapeutic modalities to help clients better understand their inner world, build emotional resilience, and reconnect with their sense of self. At the heart of the work is a belief that healing happens when every part of a person is met with curiosity, care, and respect—without judgment or pressure to “fix” anything.
The Inspiration Behind the Business
MindSpark was born from years of sitting with people during moments of deep vulnerability—when old coping strategies no longer worked, life transitions felt overwhelming, and the inner world felt loud or fragmented. Stef saw again and again that people don’t need fixing. They need skills, compassion, and to be truly heard.
What began as a small, values‑driven idea evolved into a virtual, human‑centered mental health practice designed to bridge the gap between therapy sessions and real life. MindSpark is intentionally not about quick fixes or spiritual bypassing. It’s about honoring the nervous system, respecting the complexity of lived experience, and offering tools that are both gentle and effective.
The Impact of BACD Support
As MindSpark began to grow, Stef was looking for an organization that could support and elevate the practice—not just clinically, but from a business perspective. She connected with the Business Advisory Centre Durham to gain clarity around best business practices, growth planning, and long‑term sustainability, while staying aligned with the values at the core of her work.
Through BACD and the Starter Company Plus program, Stef gained guidance and mentorship that helped her step back and see the business more clearly.
The support provided perspective on finances, expansion opportunities, and overall trajectory. Having access to approachable, knowledgeable mentors helped Stef make informed decisions and feel more confident about the direction MindSpark is heading.
Business Growth
MindSpark Psychotherapy continues to grow through expanding offerings, deepening connections, and increasing visibility through thoughtful marketing and education. Stef’s focus is on intentional growth—building awareness while maintaining the integrity and care that define the practice.
Social media and psychoeducation have been key tools for MindSpark. By sharing accessible, thoughtful content, Stef is able to connect with people who may be seeking support but don’t yet know where to start. This approach builds trust, reduces stigma, and helps potential clients feel seen even before reaching out.
Stef is most proud of her willingness to put herself out there and the meaningful connections she’s built along the way. Showing up authentically—both as a practitioner and a business owner—has been central to MindSpark’s growth and impact.
Advice for Other Entrepreneurs
“Believe in yourself and persevere.”
For Stef, building a business is as much about clarity and courage as it is about strategy. With the right support and a strong sense of purpose, growth becomes not just possible—but sustainable.
