Kindle Psychotherapy
A Space for Mind, Body, and Spirit
Kindle Psychotherapy is a holistic therapy and wellness centre located in Oshawa, Ontario, offering depth‑oriented psychotherapy and wellness services for adults seeking thoughtful, compassionate support.
Kindle’s approach is client‑centred and collaborative, grounded in respect for each person’s unique experiences and strengths. The practice supports individuals navigating anxiety, stress, burnout, trauma, relationship concerns, life transitions, identity exploration, and personal growth.
Beyond individual therapy, Kindle Psychotherapy offers group therapy, workshops, integration circles, and wellness events such as meditation, movement, and retreats. Through collaboration with aligned practitioners, Kindle creates an ethical, inclusive space that supports whole‑person well‑being and meaningful, lasting change.
The Heart Behind the Business
Mai Ling was inspired to start Kindle Psychotherapy after witnessing how deeply disconnected many people feel in today’s world. Despite constant digital connection, she saw growing isolation and a lack of genuine, human‑to‑human spaces where people could simply show up as they are.
That awareness sparked a desire to create a warm landing place—a space to think, feel, and be. Kindle Psychotherapy was created to meet a very real need for authentic, face‑to‑face connection, reflection, and healing.
Finding Guidance Through BACD
When Mai Ling first began her entrepreneurial journey, she found herself overwhelmed by fragmented advice that didn’t always align with where she was in her business.
A fellow local business owner encouraged her to connect with the Business Advisory Centre Durham, sharing their positive experience. That recommendation became a turning point—and one Mai Ling now enthusiastically passes on to others.
Building Clarity and Confidence
Through BACD, Mai Ling gained structure and clarity that helped transform scattered ideas into a practical, usable system. The experience taught her how to think through an entrepreneurial lens—balancing vision, strategy, and the many roles that come with business ownership.
BACD also provided tools to evaluate her business objectively, forecast growth, and plan intentionally for the future. These skills gave her confidence in guiding Kindle Psychotherapy as it continues to evolve.
More Than a Grant
While Mai Ling initially applied to the Starter Company Plus program for funding (funded by Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade), what she gained went far beyond financial support.
She walked away with confidence, clarity, and decision‑making tools that she continues to rely on today. Rather than operating solely on instinct or emotion, she now has objective frameworks to guide her choices. In moments of uncertainty or self‑doubt, BACD remains a trusted resource she turns to for perspective and grounding.
Growing with Purpose
During the program, Kindle Psychotherapy grew from a home‑based practice into a commercial space—opening the door to expanded community impact.
Mai Ling is now in a stage of intentional growth, preparing to hire administrative support, a supervisor for practicum students, and a subcontractor. Each step reflects a thoughtful approach to scaling while staying aligned with the heart of the work.
Relationships as a Growth Strategy
Networking and genuine relationship‑building have been the most effective marketing strategies for Kindle Psychotherapy. By nurturing trust and connection, Mai Ling has opened doors to collaborations, referrals, and opportunities that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.
For Kindle, growth has come not from quick tactics, but from meaningful human connection.
A Source of Pride
What Mai Ling is most proud of is the community impact Kindle Psychotherapy creates. She believes deeply that when individuals are supported in their well‑being, the ripple effects extend to families, communities, and the wider world.
That belief continues to guide every aspect of her business.
Words of Wisdom for Entrepreneurs
“Self‑doubt will inevitably creep in. Invest in resources that amplify the voice that says ‘I can’ over the one that says ‘I can’t.’ Whether that’s mentors, supportive people, networking, or skill‑building—make that positive voice the loudest.”
