Baby Bee Clothing creates beautiful, high quality handmade apparel that grows with your child, getting them from 3 months to 6 years in just three sizes.
What inspired you to start your own business?
My eldest daughter, nicknamed Baby Bee, was the inspiration for the business and its name. When I started making clothing for her I wanted to see her wear the pieces I’d made for more than just a few months so clothing with grow with me features were a must. I feel the same way about making clothing for my customers; if you fall in love with something I’ve made you should get a chance to wear it more than just a few times!
How did the help you got from BACD impact you and your business?
BACD really helped me to focus and clarify my vision and target market so that I can now easily and clearly communicate to potential customers. Through one of the programs they facilitate, Starter Company PLUS, they also helped me through the process of writing a business plan, financial projections, and starting to think beyond the limits I’d imagined for my business. It was a great process to go through and it was also a great opportunity to meet and hear from several different experts in things like accounting, financing, and insurance.
What marketing strategies have been successful for you?
I’ve found both social media marketing and pop-up markets to be great ways to reach my target customers. About 85% of my website traffic comes from Facebook and my sales are about 50/50 online and in-person at markets.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own business?
Do your research! Find out what you need to comply with any laws that might apply to your product, find out if there’s a market out there for your product, and find out what resources are available to you
