Mighty Harvest is the first vertical farm in Durham Region selling fresh produce directly to customers. Our product is grown without the use of pesticides or herbicides, and uses about 90% less water than conventional agriculture. We offer our products through our storefront as well as local delivery in Whitby, Oshawa, Courtice, Bad Bowmanville. Products can be purchased within 24 hours of harvest, meaning they are way fresher than what's available in the grocery store giving the customer amazing flavour and longevity.
What inspired you to start your own business?
A passion for sustainability, fresh plant based food, and supporting healthy living led me down this path of vertical farming. Very aspect of it spoke to me and is what pushed me to start.
What value did you receive from BACD?
BACD was able to help us navigate our startup phase by introducing us to valuable contacts in the Region, mapping out our startup plan to ensure nothing was forgotten. They have also been amazing in helping plan our marketing strategy.
Tell us about your business operations and growth?
1 location, 1 employee for now. Once sales expand we will be hiring a second employee. Maximum for this location is 4 employees. We hope to expand to more locations soon.
What marketing strategies work the best for your business?
Facebook has been our number 1 source for getting the word out.
What advice would you give someone who wanted to start their own business?
Start with a business plan, talk to as many people as you can about it and be open to feedback.
