HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR BUSINESS? 

In 2013, I was having coffee with one of my former web company clients. While I sat in his office I watched the delivery of 50 brand new plain white trailers. I said to my client “I hope you are branding those trailers with your logo and web address”. His response was that he couldn’t be bothered. He suggested that I could offer advertising on his trailers to my web company clients.

In June 2013 we wrapped our first trailer – it was for Jensen Trailers in Oshawa. To date they have added 5 more trailers and have happily renewed their service annually. In fact they claim that it the best advertising investment they have ever made. When we wrapped that first trailer in 2013 I had no idea that I was going to eventually sell my web company and develop a full time business of wrapping transport trucks with advertising!

HOW DID THE HELP YOU GOT FROM BACD IMPACT YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS? 

When I first started Big Rig Wraps I was receiving monthly mortgage payments for the former web business I sold and a great monthly income from a direct sales business. Our first client (Jensen Trailers) renewed their service annually and we picked up the odd client here and there without putting forth much effort. It wasn’t until 2016 that I realized the full potential of Big Rig Wraps. I decided to focus all of my effort on that business entirely. It was tough because it was like starting over again. Even though I had provided marketing services for hundreds of clients over the years, I had some form of mental block when it came to my own company.

I booked an appointment with Teresa Shaver and was thrilled with the advice and suggestions I received. Teresa helped me with my marketing materials and sales strategies. She also introduced me to the many workshops and events that the BACD offers. I am completely astounded by the resources that the BACD offers. Business owners and entrepreneurs in Durham Region are so very fortunate. BACD offers all of the tools you would ever need to become a successful business. Also, they regularly follow up with you and check in to see how you are doing and continue to freely offer advice and support.  I am a huge fan of the BACD and it’s staff!

HOW DO YOU MARKET YOUR BUSINESS? 

I market my business through social media, cold calling and networking. Social media has generated the most brand awareness for us.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO START THEIR OWN BUSINESS? 

Be prepared to work hard and know that it is not easy. It is a labour of love that is well worth the blood sweat and tears. Having control of your life and schedule is a blessing.
