The office is centrally located in the Region of Durham, Ontario, Canada in the Town of Whitby. Our address is 3000 Garden Street, Suite 200, Whitby, ON L1R 2G6. We are easily accessible from main arterial routes.
Since 1998, the BACD has developed small businesses and facilitated entrepreneurship. We offer services to all 8 municipalities within Durham Region. Operating as a not-for-profit organization we are able to partner with key professionals who can respond to the unique challenges of small businesses in many sectors. We specialize in market research and business plan development and in concert with local professionals will play a role in the commercialization aspects of growing businesses. We will continue to help micro business owners and newcomer entrepreneurs realize their dream of operating a local business. Many micro businesses contribute to the social fabric of our communities which is important for social cohesion and a sense of belonging. We will continue to foster the talents of young entrepreneurs through programming that offers mentoring, training and money. These young people will be our future employers. The BACD is situated in the Region of Durham, which is part of the highly developed and populated economic centre of Ontario known as the Golden Horseshoe, and encompasses an area of approximately 2,590 square kilometers. The population of the Region of Durham was 531,000 in May 2001. A target of 760,000 people has been estimated for the number of people living in the Region by the year 2011, and a target of 970,000 people by the year 2021 – more than double the 1991 population.
The Region of Durham is part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and consists of eight Area Municipalities: The Cities of Oshawa, and Pickering, the Towns of Ajax and Whitby; the Municipality of Clarington, and the Townships of Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge.
In 2009, there were more than 2.8 million Ontarians working for SME employers across the province.
